The highest point in Bulgaria
There are quite a few ways to reach this high point. Many people do this over several days, however, trying to shave time where we could we eventually found a route that allowed us to easily reach the summit and back again in just one day, without using any mountain huts.

Like reaching many other starting points around the Balkans, to get to the trailhead involved driving down an unsurfaced road for roughly an hour and a half. It wasn't as bad as some of the others I had driven down but it still meant a slow pace down a majority of it.

The first part was a steep incline up to a plateau roughly at 2000m up.

In the car park coming back down, we were approached by two other British people. Quite surprisingly it turned out that they recognised our GB car because we had passed them a day earlier in Bulgaria and waved because we saw their British registration plate.
As we got chatting to Olly and Anya they mentioned that they were also on a European high-point road trip to climb to the highest point of every country in the EU. We exchanged a few stories and if you are interested in what they did they have their own blog here.
