The highest point of Monaco
Of course, because of the high profiled event, we couldn't actually stay anywhere near Monaco at a reasonable price. So we eventually found some accommodation in Antibes, which was about an hours train from Monaco.

When we arrived in Monaco on Saturday, the qualifying had just started. The place was full of F1 fans. Our thoughts were to get the high point done straight away before getting distracted by all the action.

No matter what way you look at it. There is nothing interesting or glamorous about Monaco's highest point. It is located at the top of an ally sandwiched between some bins, a few parking spaces and a fairly busy road.
We walked there from the Gare de Monaco train station. It took maybe 20 or 30 mins. Once done, we headed back down towards the marina to watch the remains of the qualifying laps.

Before heading back to our accommodation, I wanted to walk up to the top of the large rock known as Tête de Chien or The Dogs Head. It is located on the French side of the border. I had seen photos from the top of here before the visit, and it just gives the most incredible view over the whole of Monaco and beyond.

I left my friends at the station and headed that way. From here, it's around about 5 km trek and takes about an hour and a half.
The view from the top certainly didn't disappoint.

I walked back down with the intention of heading back to Antibes. However, by the time I'd got back to the station, night-time had fully kicked in, and the place was alive with loud music, light displays, and crowds of dancers. All this surrounded by multi-million dollar yachts. I couldn't help myself but get sucked into the party. I decided to skip the last train back and join the crowd. :)

At 4 am, the music stopped playing, and I still had an hour and a half before the trains restarted again...

So once more, I decided to head up to the top of Tête de Chien to catch a sight of Monaco by night. I took a different route up this time. It was a trail facing the coast. I was up here until just after sunrise. Unfortunately, the thick cloud cover that morning meant I didn't actually catch the sun coming up.
I headed down for one final time. My legs were really feeling tired by this point. I managed to get the train back without falling asleep and missing my stop. Arriving back at our accommodation just after 8 am.
It was a long night filled with many steps and stomps. But certainly, put an exciting and memorable twist to an otherwise boring high point.
